Located in Herne Hill on a little shopping strip is a delightfully modern brunch venue, Soft Cafe. Probably the biggest of the cafe venues visited to date by Bellarine Bites, this venue has ample indoor seating and a decent amount of outdoor seating too. The interior is broken into two main rooms plus a private meeting room, which I thought was a really clever attraction point for local businesses. The menu is equally divided between breakfast and lunch options, and includes items such as wings on a Tuscan salad, club sandwich, brekky burger and mushroom bruschetta – yum! There is also a small kids menu to select from to keep little bellies full. The menu is more vegetarian friendly than it is vegan friendly, but there are two vegan options.
Hubby ordered the wings salad and I ordered the ricotta hot cakes, which included ice cream, lemon curd and passion fruit. As he is eating keto (no carbs), the bread on the Tuscan salad were pushed aside, but the three wings plus the salad still made for a substantial meal. My hot cakes were the perfect size and sweetness; it was not overbearing and the flavours were well balanced. The environment here is very relaxed and doesn’t feel rushed at all. Soft Cafe is an easy place to come get a delicious brunch where you can take your time getting into the day.
