First of all readers – a sincere apology for my lack of posts. With a crazy start to the New Year, my new blog unfortunately fell down the priorities list. Whoops! But I have time on my hands now, and it’s time to get back to it. I’ve discovered a range of place I would love to share with you within Geelong and the Bellarine over the coming weeks. For now though, I’d like to share a write up I did back in Summer, that I didn’t get around to posting on Bricktown…
It was a gorgeous summers day when I finally made it to Bricktown – a venue I have been dying to check out since I started this blog. Bricktown is known for their mouth watering sangas but there is so much more to this cosy little venue tucked away in Queenscliff off the main strip. I can’t seem to find the reference anymore, but I’m super sure this venue is proudly owned by Aboriginals, and when I visited, it was close to Australia Day and so it seemed fitting to come and support locally owned businesses. There were small hints of Aboriginal ownership at the cafe but you would have to look a bit hard to pick up on any references. The venue is also completely vegan friendly so meat eaters beware, you won’t find any of that on the menu.

The main seating is outdoors with a converted container and some tables for two, making this a nice place for groups not much larger than 2 or 3 at a stretch. I ordered a vegan jam donut, double espresso and Top of the Mornay sandwich, comprised of Artichoke, Cream Cheese, Corn Relish, Parsley, Dill.

Service was very fast and the food was very nice and fresh. The donut was beautifully crisp and sugary on the outside and doughy on the inside with just the right amount of jam. The coffee by Wide Open Road had a bit of a burnt nose but very pleasant flavour that was smooth and not overly bright.

Finally my sanga was a hit. Buttered on the outside and perfectly golden, the inside was not too salty nor creamy, and was perfectly balanced. The dill really lifts the artichoke and corn relish in the palette to make this a simple but flavourful dish. The food here is simple, quick and no-fuss, making this the perfect venue for a quick catch up with a friend, or a quiet lunch away from the hussle of the main strip.
